Urban Safety Corps and Detroit Red Wings Spruce Up the River Trail

The Flint Urban Safety Corps program teamed up with other AmeriCorps members and volunteers to put on a great service project with the Detroit Red Wings. Players Darren Helm and Drew Miller helped Urban Safety Corps clean the West Court Street end of the Flint River Trail, picking up trash, removing large debris, and taking care of overhanging vegetation.  See the stories on ABC12, or the Flint Journal

While this one-time project was a great boost, keeping the River Trail safe and clean is an on-going commitment for Urban Safety Corps. In partnership with the University of Michigan –Flint Department of Public Safety, United Way of Genesee County and the Genesee Country Park Police, Urban Safety Corps has launched the River Trail Watchers. Members and volunteers are riding along the Flint River Trail five days a week, between Mill Street and Ballenger Highway, to clean-up trash, report suspicious activities and interact with residents in a positive manner.

Thank you, Flint Urban Safety Corps members and volunteers, for helping keep our River Trail clean and safe! Red Wings players presented an AmeriCorps jersey to volunteers
