Volunteer: Volunteer Positions In HospiceThe Medical Team (Hospice) goal is NOT to end life, but to make the end of life as full and meaningful as possible. Our society tends to run from death and make it a horrifying experience. Death is one of those four letter words. We work to help the patient and family recognize and come to terms with issues of grief and loss and to transform these final times into a beautiful process. It is a journey through pain, but it can be a journey rich with meaning and joy. And that is why we are here. We do not hasten death, but we do allow the person the dignity to die without painful, debilitating treatments that rob the person and their families of meaningful interactions because the person is experiencing painful side effects from treatments. We want life to be lived to the fullest until the final breath is taken. And even after death of one of our patients, we continue to follow-up with the family for the next 13 months through our bereavement program.
Everyone has experience death at one point in their life and your experience as a volunteer can become a benefit to our patients and their family with being a part of their life with activities they love or just being bedside for them.

Volunteer: DTM Success MentorAre you looking for a way to be the change in your community? How would you like to spend your extra time mentoring students at a local elementary school? We are looking for dedicated students who are willing and want to help change the world. Durant-Tuuri-Mott elementary school is at risk of being overtaken by the state unless we get our student attendance up. You have the power to help us do that through our successful mentoring program. Your mentoring may very well be the only thing that these students look forward to and may be the only reason they have a desire to come to school on any given day. The work will be challenging since a lot of our students are dealing with real challenges in their personal life, but the work you do will be rewarding. You will be able to see their attendance improve and you will be able to be the role model they may not have in their life. Mentors will be responsible for meeting with their mentee 2 days a week either during lunch time 11:50-1:10, or after school hours from 4:00-4:20pm. Training will be provided. Mentors will be responsible for meeting with their mentee for the remainder of the school year. Applicants will need to fill out an ICHAT form and be subjected to a background check which can take up to a month to be completed.
