Join Michigan Education Corps for the 2020-2021 school year as a K-3 Reading Corps Interventionist and help kids learn to read using evidence-based, reading interventions. We are looking for people who have a desire to help kids succeed. No experience? No problem. You’ll receive training and ongoing expert coaching throughout the year. Join the team that empowers Michigan kids to reach their highest level of academic achievement in reading and math.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Requires 5 days per week. Position starts 1/4/2021  and ends 6/12/2021

Compensation/Benefits: living stipend of $614.29 biweekly, education award of up to $2,360.00 that can be used to repay federal student loans or future education expenses; federal student loan forbearance.

Minimum required qualifications:

      Must be 18 years of age or older by your start date.       Must have at least a high school diploma or recognized equivalent by your start date.       Must be either a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.       Must pass mandatory pre-service background checks.       Must not have served 4 or more prior terms of service with AmeriCorps State or National.

The Family Engagement VISTA will: Engage with families to determine needs & expectations around community education. Create welcoming space in each school for parents & families. Support and facilitate parent/family groups in each school. Serve as a school navigator to help students & families who are transitioning between Flint Community Schools. Serve with the Crim Fitness Foundation, Flint Community Schools (FCS), and other VISTA members to develop the curriculum and plan for the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) Camp for summer 2017. Collaborate with other members to implement other fun, quality, safe and educational programming and activities. Partner with other members, Crim staff, FCS staff and parent/community volunteers to develop at least one day of service event within the school or school community. Attend required meetings and submit required paperwork as set by the Program Manager, the Crim, FCS, and the National Service Accelerator.

About the Flint Community Schools Corps: The Crim Fitness Foundation supports a Community Schools Corps made up of AmeriCorps members and NCCC teams who provide during and after-school and summer learning activities for K-12 grade students and build capacity for community education in all Flint Community Schools schools. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve in schools and create systems to connect the school administration, parents, social service supports and community members in ways that improve academic outcomes, and recruit and manage a core pool of parent and community volunteers to help deliver during and after-school and summer programs.

Note: This is a 1-year, full-time AmeriCorps position.

The Community Engagement Coordinator position is a full-time role supporting community engagement events for students, families, and neighborhood residents on campuses that provide opportunities for programming & services such as basic needs, health, technology. Members are provided with extensive training and serve alongside teachers, school administrators, and other National Service members to implement academic enrichment programs. In this role members will:

*Develop and implement fun, quality, safe and educational programming that support students and help meet the four goals of the community education initiative: increasing 3rd grade reading levels, increasing graduation rates, increasing student attendance, and neighborhood impact

*Deliver service-learning lessons related to curriculum and opportunities to connect to the community

*Train community partners in College Positive Volunteerism to create and facilitate college and career readiness activities

The Education Coordinator position is a full-time role bringing during and after school educational programming - specifically tutoring and college positive mentoring - to Community Schools as a means to ensure that students are successfully completing each grade, graduating from 12th grade on time, and are prepared for a post-secondary option. Members are provided with extensive training and serve alongside teachers, school administrators, and other National Service members to implement academic enrichment programs.

Member duties include:

*Delivering learning activities before/after school, during lunch, and over summer for students K-12 in areas of reading, science, technology, engineering, arts, and math

*Supporting K-8 youth through STEAM summer programming *Developing service-learning lessons related to curriculum and opportunities to connect to the community

FoodCorps connects kids to healthy food in school, so they can lead healthier lives and reach their full potential.

Our AmeriCorps leaders deliver our program in high-need schools, focusing on healthy school meals, hands-on lessons, and a school-wide culture of health. 

Serving as an AmeriCorps member with FoodCorps is a full-time, eleven month commitment. The 1,700 hours you’ll serve between September and July will mostly take place during school and business hours, but evenings and weekends are occasionally required. You’ll also join us in Portland, Oregon in early August for a week-long orientation (don’t worry, we’ll cover the costs).

About LISC AmeriCorps: LISC AmeriCorps members working with our partner organizations have done everything from financial counseling and job placement to housing development and foreclosure prevention. Along the way, they engage local residents in volunteering to improve safety, healthy and the beauty of their neighborhoods. Many members serve the very communities where they live. This is one way to grow the pool of leaders who reflect the demographics of the neighborhoods served, and equip those emerging leaders with the skills to effect long-term community change.

Member Duties : The Physical Activity Coordinator position is a full-time role bringing physical activity to Community Schools as a means to alleviate stress in youth, engage youth in important team-building skills, and rally communities around positive gatherings like sports games. Members are provided with extensive training and serve alongside teachers, school administrators, and other National Service members to implement physical education programs. In this role members will:

*Use sports-based youth development as a model to create and deliver physical education activities during and after school

*Enhance during and after school programming to increase student knowledge of anger management & conflict resolution for students

*Serve as the point of contact for Community Education Sports Programming by assisting with youth recruitment and game scheduling
