Who We Are

Call To Action:

Asthma affects more than 40,323 people in Genesee County.  It is one of the leading causes of preventable hospitalizations in children.  In Genesee County, there are about 804 hospitalizations per year due to asthma, and about 8 deaths.  With knowledge about proper care and medications, these deaths could have been prevented.

The Solution:

Through asthma education and management, we educate people on how to manage their asthma everyday.  We help them to understand the respiratory system and how their asthma medications work to control their asthma.  We teach them how to identify things in the environment and in their homes that  trigger their asthma.  Education is provided on how to use asthma inhalers and devices in the most beneficial way and how important it is to follow their asthma action plan.

We have certified asthma educators willing to speak about asthma in the community setting.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for children and adults with asthma through research, education, advocacy and community partnerships.

What We Do

The Genesee County Asthma Network offers asthma education to the community.  Since 1997 we have reached out to the community through in-services, conferences, seminars, health fairs, school fairs, media interviews, and our website.  Our staff and volunteers educate community members, including those in schools and daycare centers, about asthma.  All of our services are provided by our highly skilled staff of registered nurses and respiratory therapists and are certified asthma educators.  We have an annual summer camp called Camp Easy Breathers.  This camp is for children with asthma between the ages of 8 and 14 years.
