We are excited to invite you to join us at our 2nd “Get Out & Move!” Health Extravaganza (GOME). GOME focus is to promote healthy eating and active living among Genesee County residents by offering health screenings and providing an array of information and demonstrations in innovative and fun ways to becoming healthy. The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, August 2, 2014, from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at Atwood Stadium in Flint, MI.
This event is designed to challenge the increased rate of obesity in Genesee County by encouraging residents to ‘Get Up, Get Out, and Get Moving’. Last year, we were able to provide healthy eating education, healthy food demonstrations, and health screenings to five hundred children and adults. Participants were also engaged in numerous demonstrations of both traditional and non-traditional forms of exercise, (instructional line dances, like the “Wobble”, break dancing, cheerleading, and hoola hooping) to get people moving.
This year, we intend to expand this event to address the total person. Therefore, we would like to offer an array of information on issues that that may prevent an individual from taking charge of their health destiny in innovative and fun ways. It is our hope that this event will continue to serve as an avenue for residents as they sustain or begin their journey to better health.
