Neithercut Elementary is celebrating Global Youth Service Day on Thursday, May 16th!We are looking for volunteers to help our students have a successful project that day.
Our GYSD project is an in-school, student-led service day of rebuilding and beautifying the community garden at Neithercut Elementary. The community garden is in desperate need of a revitalization. The project will help with basic cleanup, maintenance, and production of crops. Students will personalize the garden by painting rocks to place around the garden’s edges. The rocks can be decorated with their names, graduation year, and/or whatever is important to them. This encourages a connection to the garden by the students. Knowing they created the garden will establish a positive relationship with it. These experiences can foster an interest in gardening and proper nutrition. There will be four main stations: painting garden beds, planting seeds in small growing containers, tilling the garden soil, and decorating rocks. Volunteers can choose which activity station they would like to help with.
**All NEW volunteers will need to fill out an ICHAT form before volunteering and be subjected to a background check.**
