MLK Day is a time for reflection on the Dream that Dr. Martin Luther King left on record for people to come together and help each other let’s continue that dream. This year the 2nd ward city council woman Ladel Lewis has developed a partnership with the American Red Cross to install (3) free smoke detectors in homes on Flint’s north side. Dr. Kings message was service and here is a chance to do your part. Click the respond or respond as a team button at the top or bottom of this page to help install smoke detectors on January 14th.
(If your smoke detector, or the detector of someone you know more than 7 years old, chirps or just not working, the partnership with the American Red Cross will provide new ones and install them for you free of charge. Please call the numbers below to set up your free install!)
Please contact Ken Marks from the Red Cross for any questions regarding this opportunity by email at kenneth.marks2@redcross.org or phone at (810) 893-6641 or (810) 893-6645. There are additional opportunities to install smoke detectors on January 16th.
Council Woman Ladel Lewis is also recruiting volunteers from the 2nd ward to join her team at the United Way Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service Food Packing Event on January 16th. You can join that team from 9am -12pm at the Dort Event Center to help pack 200,000 meals for those experiencing food insecurities in Genesee County! Click HERE to register on that team.
