Who We Are
Our Mission is to create a collaborative relationship with other churches, organizations, and individuals who will help fulfill the vision. Our Vision is to feed a healthy meal to anyone who is hungry, and to act as a resource center to direct people to the agency that can help them. South Flint Soup Kitchen opened its doors informally in 2010 starting with serving TV dinners with Pastor Maurice Horne leading the charge. They averaged 35 TV dinners a week and that's when they decided they should begin a collaborative relationship with Catholic Charities to provide even more. On January 11, 2011, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held and the South Flint Soup Kitchen was born. Fast forward to 2020 - Pastor Horne is no longer with the ministry and Asbury Community Development Corporation has taken the reigns. With their new Senior Program Manager Katelin Maylum at the helm, Asbury, a church and non-profit on the east side of Flint, is dedicated to bringing more fresh and local food to the tables of Flint families. We are dedicated to continuing Pastor Horne's beautiful ministry and expanding into new ventures - The Angel Closet where we open our doors twice a month to provide like new/new clothing, household goods, personal hygiene products, school supplies and more, our food pantry that sponsors a food giveaway once a month, fun community events and so much more. We look forward to meeting with you and sharing our love for this community!
What We Do
We serve lunches Monday through Saturday 11am-noon and we host Food Giveaways and our Angel Closet twice a month. We also have the occasional community event, vaccine clinics and more.
