Who We Are

Mission: To eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

The YWCA is one of the oldest and largest women’s organizations in the nation. Across the globe, we have more than 25 million members in 122 countries, including 2 million members in 300 local associations in the United States. We provide safe places for women and girls, build strong women leaders, and advocate for women’s rights and civil rights in Congress.

The YWCA Greater Flint has been serving the community since 1908 offering varied services based on the evolving needs of women and children.

What We Do

Throughout our history, programs and services have been at the forefront of addressing the most pressing social issues, and today our primary focus is on three organizational priorities:

  • Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program- The YWCA Greater Flint is the only county provider, recognized by the State of Michigan, that offers comprehensive services and crisis intervention for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Women’s Empowerment Center – The Women’s Empowerment Center, located on the 2nd floor, provides women and girls from Flint and Genesee County with a place to gather, share stories and experiences, explore and learn, and develop new skills in pursuit of life goals.
  • Racial Justice and Gender Equity Programs – Workshops are designed for individuals and organizational leadership groups to engage with new content and activities to enhance knowledge and understanding and identify strategies for action that help facilitate transformational change for the Greater Flint community.
