The Community Garden promotes an atmosphere where hands on experience and physical activities increases knowledge of growing fresh produce and flowers, increasing nutrition and preparation to healthy living. Our Vision is that by encouraging current home owners and their families, who are considering moving away from blighted areas an opportunity to give back to the community that empowers and encourages block homeowner improvements, community interaction, wellness and a reduction of crime. My Community Resource House and Garden is an exempt organization as describe in Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We are currently in the beginning stages of providing fresh food, relaxation and therapeutic spaces for the Civic Park Neighborhood and surrounding area. We are not just a garden; we are a garden with a purchase. Our garden president is an occupational therapist active in the community providing hands on solutions for proper body mechanics, precaution techniques for physical elements and future goals of providing relaxation techniques for stress relief.

What We Do

My Community House and Garden began its project in May 2016 (Phase 1) with an effort to provide fresh vegetables to the Civic Park Residents. We joined in with a local church to participate in our first food drive by supplying 80% organic vegetables provided by Edible Flint and Kens greenhouse. In 2017, we continued with our efforts and introductions by going door to door passing out vegetables. Our neighbors overwhelmingly expressed a need of providing a space for relaxation as we made headway to installing our privacy fencing and clearing out brush. In 2018, we are continuing in our efforts to get neighbors involved with growing vegetables, and relaxing in a space to reduce stress. With education in body mechanics, wellness and interaction amongst the community, we hope that the space will be utilized for years to come.
