May 20th may go down in history as the day it became dangerous to be a piece of trash on Flint's northside.

Dozens of AmeriCorps service members and community volunteers will be congregating around Max Brandon Park in a full day of trash pickups, brush clearing, and flower planting. They will be fanning out into three "Zones" surrounding the park as well as into the park's southside for a low mobility project; this involves painting flower boxes for home distribution.

How will the day go down?
Volunteers will arrive for registration at 8:00 AM. There will be a group photo and introduction to the day's work at around 8:30 AM. Work begins in earnest at 9:00 AM. There will be a break for lunch at noon, then people will dive back into their work until 3:00 PM. There we will be cleaning up until 4:00 PM, when the event officially ends.

What sort of volunteers are right for the Russ Mawby Day of Service?
Those who are skillful with a rake, who know something about horticulture, who are passionate about their community, who hate seeing their play places filled with trash, and basically anyone who feels part of this great city.
