In the words of Dr. King, “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve.” We would like to extend the opportunity to serve the community on the MLK Day of Service, while still adhering to COVID-19 safety guidelines (pre-health assessment, temperature checks, social distancing, mask requirement, etc). Volunteer shifts at each site will be limited to a maximum of 25 people, who will be socially distanced outside.
The Flint National Service Accelerator and the United Way of Genesee County in partnership with the Flint Community Education Initiative will be hosting two free drive-thru food distributions. Volunteers will assist in setting up stations for food distribution and load food into the vehicles. Community members will stay in their cars throughout the drive-thru to minimize contact with the volunteers. We will also be giving out 500 locally sourced MLK Day of Service themed book and activity bags for families. These bags will also contain information about free resources available to Flint families.
