About the Project
Each year, the Russ Mawby Signature Service Project brings hundreds of AmeriCorps members and community volunteers to various Michigan communities for a day of service. This year, we are serving near Max Brandon Park where volunteers will help beautify the neighborhood through a collective clean up effort!
Volunteer activities will consist of brush removal, trash pick-up, and porch & board up painting of Land Bank properties along Mason and Van Wagoner St as well as clearing the sidewalks for pedestrians near the park entrance. There will also be low mobility service activities which consist of flower planting for local senior residents.
Registration and the low mobility project will be based at the Max Brandon Park Pavilion. Lunch will be provided to all volunteers!
Please indicate in the comment section of your registration the following information: Shirt size, any dietary restrictions, and if you would like to request for low mobility activity. Dietary restrictions will be accommodated for volunteers who register by May 13th.
In Memory of Russ Mawby
Dr. Russell –“Russ”– Mawby was a tremendous advocate for youth and volunteer service. During his 36-year tenure, he served as a program officer, vice president, CEO, and chair of the W.K Kellogg Foundation. While serving as CEO and chair, Dr. Mawby was instrumental in convening a series of meetings leading to the formation of the Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC). To honor Dr. Mawby’s commitment to volunteerism, service, and AmeriCorps, it was only fitting that the service project be renamed the Michigan’s AmeriCorps Russ Mawby Signature Service Project.
