Join us for the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance!
On September 11, 2017 volunteers are needed to aid in disaster preparedness for Flint. There are 3 levees in the community that are in need of restoration. These levees are constructed walls that regulate water levels. They are essential in flood prevention. On this day of service, we will be working to restore and maintain the integrity of 2 levees. One levee is located near Aldridge and the other off Oak Street. Volunteers will be removing unwanted dumping and vegetation, along with other clean-up, to keep the levees safe.
Volunteers will gather at the Dome of Flint City Hall (1101 S Saginaw St) to check-in and divide into teams. From the dome, volunteers will be responsible for transporting themselves to their levee location, though a bus may be available. Team leaders will be at each site to instruct all volunteers. The volunteer day starts at 9:15 a.m. and will end at 4:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. This is an outdoor clean-up activity. Long pants and close-toed shoes should be worn for safety.
For volunteers who are in need of a low-mobility project, we will be staying at the Dome and completing service projects there.
WHEN REGISTERING, PLEASE PUT IN THE NOTES ANY DIETARY RESTRICTIONS AS WELL AS WHETHER YOU WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE LOW-MOBILITY PROJECT.
Please join us on Monday, September 11, as we aid in the preservation of structures that are crucial to the Flint community. Coming together on 9/11 to do good is our way to be part of the national effort to pay tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors and those who rose up in service in response to the attacks.
