Walking School Bus Leaders

Expired

Description

Freeman Elementary is in need of Walking School Bus Leaders to ensure students arrive to school safely and on time. Walking School busses are just like regular busses, except we are powered by our feet, not an engine! Leaders will wait at the designated "bus stop" for students to arrive where they will take attendance and begin their walk.

Walking School busses are encouraged by the Crim Fitness Foundation and Michigan Safe Routes to School because they promote healthy living and roadside safety. Freeman Elementary wants to enforce the importance of school attendance and safety among all of our students through the Walking School Bus program.

Walking School Bus Leaders MUST:

  • be on time, reliable, and consistent;
  • take attendance each week and turn-in attendance sheets to Community Education staff at Freeman;
  • encourage school attendance and roadside safety;
  • be alert of potential safety threats/hazards in the area; and,
  • enforce positive behavior among students.

Walking School busses will run every Wednesday beginning at 7:20 am until 8:00 am. Leaders are expected to be at their posts each week on time and dressed appropriately. Busses will walk weekly with the only exceptions being intercessions, breaks, and snow days as determined by the Flint Community School District.

Leaders will be assigned to a post only after completion of an ICHAT background check as required by Flint Community Schools (see attached).
