We are starting up our Bike Patrol and River Trail Watchers. Please see below to find out more about each:
Bike Patrol
Bike Patrol is a way for community members to become more engaged in the community that they live or work in. The patrol functions as a form of organized surveillance for the neighborhood, used to deter crime and build a community network. In addition to reducing the opportunity for crime to occur in the neighborhood, Bike Patrol will serve as a catalyst for further community engagement. The presence of a patrol will help residents who live on or use the patrolled neighborhood feel safer. Also bike patrols can help reduce and deter crimes all while engaging the community and communicating what bike patrol is to the community.
Patrols are usually 2 hours long and have a predetermined route. Bikes and helmets are on a first come first serve bases. You are more then welcome to join us if you have your own bike and helmet. Rides are scheduled in May and change every month with an occasional Saturday ride. Teams are more than welcomed!
Flint Urban Safety Corps (FUSC) members and community members will be patrolling in the neighborhoods in the University Area Corridor, based on the area we are focusing on, three days a week in two-hour increments.
River Trail Watchers
River Trail Watchers (RTW) is a way for community members with limited mobility to become more engaged in the community that they live or work in. Just like Bike Patrol, RTW functions as a form of organized surveillance for the neighborhood, used to deter crime and build a community network. In addition to reducing the opportunity for crime to occur in the neighborhood along the River Trail, RTW will serve as a catalyst for further community engagement. The presence of a patrol will help residents who live or use the River Trail feel safer. Also River Trail patrols can help reduce and deter crimes all while engaging the community and communicating what RTW is to the community.
Patrols are usually 2 hours long and have a predetermined route. There is limited seating for the cart ride and is on a first come first serve bases. Trips are usually scheduled in May and times change every month with occasional Saturday ride.
Both patrol end around November. Both patrols start at the North Bank Center located at 432 N. Saginaw STE 222
