Help us throw the best party on the river! We're looking for volunteers for the Flint River Flotilla. Tasks vary greatly and include experienced kayakers needed to be river spotters, general assistance, photographers, and more. See below for detailed needs.

All tasks listed above will be performed outdoors on the day of the event. All volunteers will receive a free 2019 Flotilla t-shirt.

We're looking for 30-50 volunteers to help make the Flint River Flotilla 2019 a huge success! All volunteers will be provided with a free Flotilla 2019 t-shirt, water, snacks, and our undying gratitude. Please see below for volunteer job descriptions:

 

Friday, August 2nd (time tbd) & Saturday August 3rd (7am-10am)

River Set-Up - Assist prior to the Flotilla on the river with set-up and marking obstructions - bring your own kayak if you can

Set-Up at Mott Park, Tenacity, and Bridges - Assist staff with setting up tents, tables, signs, decorations, hanging sponsor banners, etc.

 

Saturday August 3rd (10am-1pm)

Mott Park Parking Logistics - We need volunteers to pull some double duty to ensure participants have an easy time parking and getting participants onto the shuttle.

Tenacity Parking Enforcer -  Assist participants who are dropping off boats, and instruct all other vehicles on where they can park at Mott Park.

Participant Safety Checks - Hand out liability waivers on clipboards to folks in line for registration. Ensure minors have a guardian sign for them. Ensure all participants have a life jacket or are going to purchase one.

Registration - Assist with registration, merchandise sales, and hand stamps.

Inflation Technician - Run the air compressor to inflate rafts.

MC - We need to communicate important safety information to participants, as well as do a little entertainment during registration and launching.

Launch Assistant - Ensure no one enters the stairs without a hand stamp and life jacket, help escort traffic down the stairs, help participants enter river.

 

Saturday, August 3rd (11am-3pm)

Bridge Spotters - We’re putting people on the water, so our bridge volunteers need to be on the lookout for any participants in distress.  In addition, our bridge watchers will have prime location for shooting some great photos!  

River Spotters - bring your own kayak if you can - Experienced paddlers on the water in the front, middle and back of the pack.  Look out for any participants in distress; providing help if any issues arise.



Saturday, August 3rd (12:30pm-5pm)

River Exit Assistants - Help people over the rocky landing and help lift boats up shoreline if necessary.

Photographer at GM/Hurley Flotilla Backdrop - Distribute Flotilla 2019 stickers, take lots of group photos in front of backdrop, encourage folks to post their photos to social media

Merch Sales - Distribute t-shirt pre-orders and sell remaining tees.

 

Saturday August 3rd (3pm-7pm)

After-Party Clean-Up - Assist in tear-down and clean up of the after party.
