Each year, the Russ Mawby Signature Service Project brings hundreds of AmeriCorps members and volunteers to various Michigan communities for a day of intensive service. This year, we are serving at the Brennan and Thread Lake Parks where volunteers will help beautify the neighborhood through a collective clean up effort!
The Russ Mawby Signature Service Project will be held on the Southside of Flint in the Brennan and Thread Lake Parks neighborhood. This project is in collaboration with the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative, the Genesee County Landbank, Keep Genesee County Beautiful, and the City of Flint-Blight Department to help beautify the neighborhood where the Landbank has already started demolition of houses and have boarded up vacant housing.
Volunteer activities will consist of exterior porch/foundation painting, mural painting on board ups, trash pick ups, brush removal, with lopper vegetation removal for CPTED around Thread Lake Park Area, clean-up sites with backhoe to remove settled dump piles around parks and vacant houses. There will also be low mobility service activities which consist of creating garden seed balls and flower planting.
Brennan Park will be use as the meet up location to park vehicles as well as the location for the low mobility project. This will also be the lunch meet up point!

Important Things for Volunteers to Note
- Volunteers must practice social distancing and will be required to wear a mask at all times!
- If you are having symptoms of COVID or been in close contact with anyone who has COVID-19, please refrain from attending!
- Children under the age of 16, must be accompanied by a adult at all times!
- Dress for the weather. The event will happen rain or shine.
- Wear closed toe shoes!

I, for myself, my heirs and assigns, and my personal representatives hereby assume all risk of personal injury or death, including, but not limited to, contraction of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and property damage or loss from whatever causes arising, while I am engaged in volunteer work for United Way of Genesee County and release United Way of Genesee County and all collaborating organizations, and their officers, agents and employees from any liability therefore, directly or indirectly, and will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless United Way of Genesee County and all collaborating organizations, and their officers, agents and employees from any such liability, whether or not arising out of negligent or willful actions or the failure to act on the part of United Way of Genesee County and all collaborating organizations, or their officers, agents and employees. The consideration for my agreement herein is my being allowed to engage in the activity referenced above. Further, I certify that I am 18 years of age or older and or accompany by a adult.
