For-Mar Nature Preserve has 383 acres of wetlands, forests, and fields. The naturalists and staff at For-Mar are committed to educating visitors about the animals and plant life that make up a healthy ecosystem. They also have a barrier free tree house! They use this tree house for educational programming and as the headquarters of their park superheroes, The Preservers.
On August 29th, Genesee Serves, will be collaborating with For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum in Burton to complete several volunteer projects to benefit their garden. Projects will include restoration of the tree house under story with native species, mulching and and restoring the edible forest garden, and preparing their hoop house for the fall and winter. To make this a success we need approximately 75 volunteers.
Volunteers will be assisting in projects that will help the park continue its commitment to providing visitors an educational experience.
- The under story of the tree house will be replanted with native species that the park staff can use to educate visitors with.
- The mulching of the edible forest garden will help the park immensely by providing them a cleaner and safer place to educate visitors about what plants are safe to eat.
- For-Mar uses the hoop house to teach visitors how to harvest plants and when the appropriate times are to grow different plants.
After the volunteer projects are completed UWGC will be donating scientific books to the For-Mar treehouse. All volunteers and community members are then invited to join us for lunch and to celebrate the campaign kickoff for the Burton community.
